Frequently asked questions.

What is art therapy?

Art therapy involves the use of creative techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, or sculpting to help you express yourself artistically and emotionally. By engaging the body and senses, art therapy can help relieve stress and promote mental and emotional wellbeing. It's not just for "artistic types" - anyone can benefit from using art making therapeutically.

What is trauma-informed singing?

Trauma-informed singing lessons acknowledge the impact emotional trauma has on the body and voice. Learn about and develop your singing voice in a gentle way where you set your own pace, goals and boundaries. Singing has many well-researched mental health benefits. By engaging the body and breath, singing has been shown to lower stress, improve mood, boost lung function and even manage pain.

Does creative therapy work online?

Yes! You just need a stable internet connection, a camera and a microphone. For art therapy I can provide you with a pack of art materials, or you're welcome to bring your own. For singing lessons, you will need a speaker or second device to play music. Online therapy has many benefits, such as flexibility, convenience and feeling safe and in control of your environment.

How much talking is involved?

Art therapy can involve as much or as little talking as feels comfortable to you. Some people prefer to make art in silence, while others like to talk while they create. Generally there will be a discussion after art making sessions, where the therapist will guide the client through a therapeutic exploration of the process and final product.
